My horse has rub marks from his muzzle. What can I do to prevent those?
If your horse starts to have rub marks from his muzzle, the first thing to do is to ensure the muzzle is fitted properly. Allow for no more than two fingers’ width between the basket and the face for movement, as well as two fingers’ width between the lips and the basket.
If the fit is correct but there is still rubbing, you can add a muzzle liner. Muzzle liners come in synthetic mink or sheepskin and can be purchased in separate pieces or as a whole set. Remember to periodically check the liners for debris that might get stuck and cause discomfort, such as burrs, hay and caked dirt.
